Zephyr Project — Linux Foundation Announces Open Source Operating System For IoT

Being an open source project, Linux Foundation’s Zephyr will drive innovation for IoT devices. That means startups over IoT will no longer have to wait for the licensing of an operating system. You can also become a part of the Zephyr project and contribute your work. On top of that, working with an open source platform also ensures that there is a constant innovation.

The Zephyr Project is modular in nature. The Zephyr Project kernel and its associated modules can run on systems as small as 8kB of memory. Zephyr also gives the independence to select and disable as many modules as many you want. For this reason, they have a tool included in the project called Kconfig tool. Besides these features, you can also integrate any third party module with this Project.

Let’s assume that the working functionality of the modules is perfect but another important part is the security which needs to be taken care of. The Linux Foundation fully understands and a dedicated group has been planned specifically in maintaining and improving the Zephyr Project security.
